Cable Ties and Hose Clamps

Ties and clamps are used to bundle and secure cables and to clamp hoses and pipes onto fittings. What to consider when choosing cable ties and hose clamps

Type

A cable tie is single-use and quickly fastens cables and tubes, while a worm-drive hose clamp tightens a hose onto a fitting with a screw and can be reused.

Size

Choose a cable tie by length (bundle diameter) and width (strength), and a hose clamp by its clamping range, which must include the outer diameter of the hose.

Material

Nylon ties withstand temperature changes, and black ties are more resistant to sunlight. Steel hose clamps do not rust in damp conditions.

Packaging

Cable ties are sold in packs of 100 or in assorted kits that are handy for the workshop and the car.

Installation

Trim the excess of a cable tie with diagonal cutters, and tighten a hose clamp with a screwdriver or socket without damaging the hose.
