A detailed buying guide: how to choose a manual garden sprayer.
Sprayers are used to treat plants in orchards, vineyards, vegetable plots and greenhouses with protection products and fertilisers, and for disinfection and watering. This section covers unpowered sprayers: small hand sprayers, pump-up pressure sprayers and lever-operated backpack sprayers, plus lances, nozzles and spare parts. When working with pesticides, protective equipment is essential: how to choose personal protective equipment.
A small hand sprayer (0.5-2 L) suits houseplants and greenhouses, a pump-up sprayer (5-10 L) a small garden, and a lever backpack sprayer (12-20 L) vineyards and orchards. On large areas, cordless and petrol sprayers are faster.
Choose a volume so that one fill is enough for one treatment without the sprayer being too heavy. A wide filler opening and a measuring scale make mixing the solution easier.
In a pump-up sprayer, pressure is built up in advance, while in a lever sprayer the pump works continuously. A pressure relief valve protects the tank, and a gauge helps keep the spray even.
A long lance lets you reach the tree canopy, and an adjustable nozzle changes the spray from a fine mist to a straight jet. A wide fan nozzle is convenient for weed treatment.
Seals should resist chemicals, and spare parts should be easy to obtain. For a backpack sprayer, check that the shoulder straps are wide and padded.
Spray only in calm weather, wear safety glasses: how to choose safety glasses, a respirator and gloves, and do not eat or smoke while working. Keep chemicals away from children.
After use, rinse the tank, lance and nozzle with clean water and pump a little water through the system. Store the sprayer empty, depressurised and protected from frost: how to maintain, store and organize hand tools.
At ToolsArmenia you can choose a sprayer by type, volume, pump and nozzles for orchards, vineyards and greenhouses.
