Table Saws: Benchtop, Site and Sliding Carriage Models

Table Saws: Benchtop, Site and Sliding Carriage Models

Table saws

A detailed buying guide: how to choose a table saw.

This section covers mains-powered table saws for rip and cross cuts in boards, battens, plywood, chipboard and other sheet materials: compact benchtop models, portable site table saws and floor-standing saws with a sliding carriage. For an overview, read what electrical equipment is and how it is classified.

What to consider when choosing a table saw

Machine type

A compact benchtop saw suits a home workshop, a site model is light and often has a folding stand, and a floor-standing saw with a sliding carriage is designed for precise sheet cutting. On cutting depth and bevel: circular saw cutting depth, bevel angle, and guide system.

Blade and cutting depth

Blade diameter (for example 210–315 mm) sets the maximum cutting depth, adjusted by raising and tilting the blade. Choose the blade and tooth count to suit the material: how to choose a circular saw blade and how to choose saw-blade tooth count.

Table and fences

Table size, extensions and the maximum rip-fence distance from the blade determine how wide a sheet you can cut, while the mitre gauge and carriage help with cross cuts. On holding workpieces: how to choose clamps, vises and holding tools.

Power and supply

Benchtop and site saws run on 220 V at roughly 1500–2000 W, while production saws with a carriage may require 380 V. See how to choose tool power (W) and volt (V).

Riving knife and protection

A riving knife keeps the kerf from pinching the blade and reduces kickback risk, while a blade guard, push stick and no-volt release are essential for safe work: what is anti-restart.

Dust extraction

A table saw produces a lot of sawdust, so connect a vacuum to the dust port — see how to choose a construction vacuum cleaner — and wear a respirator: how to choose a respirator.

Safe operation

Feed narrow pieces only with a push stick, never stand in line with possible kickback, never work without the riving knife and guard, and wear hearing protection. Read how to work safely with stationary machines, how to choose hearing protection and how to organize a safe workplace.

At ToolsArmenia you can compare table saws by type, blade diameter and cutting depth, table size, fence and power and choose the right model for your workshop.
