Air Tool Kits: Compressor Starter and Workshop Sets

Air Tool Kits

A detailed buying guide: how to choose an air tool kit.

This section covers air tool kits: compressor starter kits with a tyre inflator, blow gun, spray gun, washing gun and hose, as well as workshop kits with an impact wrench and sockets. They are convenient when you already have or are buying a compressor and want the most needed tools in one purchase. These kits are used in home garages, car workshops, tyre shops and small workshops. The compressor itself is not included, so an electric or petrol compressor of suitable output is required.

What to consider when choosing an air tool kit

Kit type and purpose

Starter kits (usually 5–17 pieces) are designed for a home compressor for inflating, blowing and small painting jobs. Workshop kits include an impact wrench, ratchet or sanding tools and are designed for a more powerful compressor. See what pneumatic tools are and how they work.

Starter kit contents

Check what is actually included: a tyre inflator with gauge, blow gun, washing gun, spray gun, coil hose and adapters for balls and inflatables. A kit with fewer but better-quality items is preferable to one padded with small adapters. Read how to choose a tyre inflator gun and how to choose an air blow gun.

Impact wrench kits

Workshop kits usually include a 1/2" impact wrench with 300–1000 N·m of torque and 10–27 mm impact sockets. Check that the sockets are true impact sockets (Cr-Mo) rather than ordinary chrome vanadium. Read how to choose a pneumatic impact wrench and how to choose wrenches, sockets, ratchets and torque tools.

Spray gun in the kit

Spray guns in starter kits usually have a bottom cup and a 1.5–2 mm nozzle, which is enough for fences, gates and small parts. For car body painting, a separate HVLP spray gun is better. See how to choose a pneumatic paint sprayer.

Air consumption and compressor compatibility

Size the kit to its most air-hungry tool: a blow gun needs 100–150 l/min, a spray gun 150–250 l/min and an impact wrench 250–400 l/min at 6.2–6.3 bar. The real output of the compressor should exceed this consumption by at least 20–30%. Read how to calculate compressor air delivery and how to choose an air compressor.

Hose and fitting quality

Coil hoses in kits are usually 5–10 m long and 5×8 or 6.5×10 mm, while an impact wrench is better served by an 8–10 mm inner diameter. Check that all tools have the same type of quick couplers, EURO, ORION or RAPID, and that they are steel or brass rather than plastic. See how to choose an air hose and quick couplers.

Air preparation

A spray gun needs dry, oil-free air while an impact wrench needs oiling, so use a separate filtered line for painting. Fit a filter-regulator after the compressor and drain condensate regularly. Read how to prepare compressed air: condensate, filters, regulators, and lubricators.

Case and spare parts

A sturdy case protects the tools and makes storage easier, and separate compartments keep adapters from getting lost. Prefer a kit whose tools have replacement seals, nozzles and fittings available. See how to choose spare parts for pneumatic and hydraulic tools.

Safety

Never point blow or washing guns at people, disconnect the air before changing tools and wear safety glasses. Read how to use pneumatic tools safely and how to choose safety glasses.

At ToolsArmenia you can compare air tool kits by contents, number of pieces, hose and coupler type and choose a kit that matches your compressor.
