A detailed buying guide: how to choose a concrete vibrator.
This section covers corded electric internal (poker) vibrators for compacting freshly placed concrete and removing air bubbles in foundations, slabs, columns, walls and formwork. A vibrator increases concrete strength and surface quality and reduces voids around reinforcement. For engine-powered equipment, read how to choose engine-powered concrete equipment: mixer, vibrator, screed and power trowel, and for mixing concrete, read how to choose a concrete mixer.
The most common type is a motor unit with a flexible shaft and a vibrating head (poker), suitable for private and medium-sized construction. On industrial sites, high-frequency vibrators with a motor built into the head and a frequency converter are also used. See differences between professional and household power tools.
Poker diameter (usually 25–60 mm) is chosen by the thickness of the element and the spacing of the rebar: 25–38 mm for thin walls and dense reinforcement, 45–60 mm for foundations and slabs. The larger the diameter, the larger the radius of action. Read concrete vibrator poker diameter, shaft length and frequency.
The flexible shaft length (usually 1–6 m) must let you lower the poker to the full depth of the formwork while the motor stays on a stable surface. Many models have interchangeable shafts and heads, so one motor can serve different elements.
Electric vibrators are usually rated at 800–2300 W on 220 V, with more powerful models on 380 V. A large-diameter poker and a long shaft need a more powerful motor. See how to choose tool power (W) and volt (V).
Poker vibration frequency is usually 12,000–15,000 vibrations per minute (200–250 Hz). Higher frequency compacts workable concrete faster, while amplitude also matters for stiff mixes. Compare manufacturer data for pokers of the same diameter.
On site a vibrator works in moisture, cement splashes and dust, so check the motor protection rating, cable quality and outdoor extension cord. See what is an IP rating and how to use an extension cord safely.
Motors carried on a shoulder strap or backpack frame are convenient for moving around the formwork, while heavier models have a frame and handles. For longer work, weight and shaft flexibility matter. See tool ergonomics, weight, and safety systems.
Insert the poker vertically at 30–50 cm intervals, avoid touching rebar and formwork, withdraw it slowly and do not run it in the air for long. Do not bend the shaft sharply, and wear rubber boots and gloves. Read how to use a concrete mixer or plate compactor safely and essential power tool safety rules.
At ToolsArmenia you can compare concrete vibrators by power, poker diameter, shaft length, vibration frequency and supply and choose the right model for your site.
