A detailed buying guide: how to choose a petrol cut-off saw, floor saw or road saw.
This section covers petrol floor saws — machines on a wheeled frame that make straight cuts in concrete, asphalt and reinforced concrete floors with a diamond blade. They are used for cutting expansion and contraction joints, repairing road surfaces, cutting channels for utilities and removing sections of floor. The internal-combustion engine allows work on roads and open sites without mains power. The category is intended for construction and road-building companies.
A floor saw differs from a handheld cut-off saw by its frame and wheels, which give a long, straight cut of even depth. Choose the model according to the material: green or cured concrete, asphalt or reinforced concrete. See what motor tools and engine-powered equipment are and how to choose them.
Floor saws use a four-stroke engine rated at 6.5–15 hp (5–11 kW). Large blades and deep cuts need a more powerful engine, otherwise the blade will bog down. Read differences between two-stroke, four-stroke and diesel engines and engine displacement, power, torque and RPM: how to compare engine-powered equipment.
Blade diameter is usually 350–500 mm, with a maximum cutting depth of 100–180 mm. Check the blade bore and choose a diamond blade for concrete or asphalt. More details: how to choose a diamond disc.
A built-in 25–40 l water tank or a mains water connection cools the blade and binds concrete dust. Dry cutting requires a respirator. Read how to choose a respirator.
A screw or lever depth adjuster lets you lower the blade gradually, while a guide pointer helps keep the cutting line. Larger models weigh 70–130 kg and have a folding handle for transport.
Most models have a manual recoil starter, and powerful ones also offer electric start. A four-stroke engine runs on straight petrol, and the oil level should be checked before every job. Read fuel, engine oil and two-stroke mix: how to choose and use them correctly.
Engine and blade noise exceeds 100 dB, and concrete fragments fly during cutting. Work with safety glasses and ear protection. Read how to choose safety glasses and how to choose hearing protection.
Never work without the blade guard, and before cutting make sure there are no pipes or cables in the floor. Clean the air filter regularly and check belt tension and spare-part availability. See how to safely use internal-combustion-engine tools and equipment, how to maintain and store motor tools and engine-powered equipment and how to choose spare parts for gasoline and diesel engines.
At ToolsArmenia you can compare petrol floor saws by blade diameter, cutting depth, engine power, water tank and weight and choose the right model for your jobs.
