A detailed buying guide: how to choose a wheelbarrow.
Wheelbarrows are used to move soil, sand, gravel, concrete, fertiliser, leaves, firewood and building debris in gardens, on farms and on building sites. This section includes one- and two-wheel garden and construction wheelbarrows, plus replacement wheels and inner tubes. For loading, you need a scoop shovel: how to choose a shovel.
A one-wheel barrow is manoeuvrable and easily travels along narrow paths and planks, while a two-wheel barrow is more stable with heavy loads and on uneven ground.
For the garden, a 60-80 L tray is enough, while building work needs 90-120 L. A galvanised steel tray withstands concrete and gravel, while plastic is light and does not rust from fertiliser.
Check the maximum load in kilograms, not just the volume, because wet concrete and gravel are very heavy. For construction wheelbarrows, 150-250 kg is typical.
A tubular steel frame with extra supports holds the tray under heavy loads. Powder-coated or galvanised frames rust less, and rubber grips do not slip.
A pneumatic wheel rolls smoothly over rough ground but can puncture, while a solid wheel is puncture-proof but harder. Bearings make the wheel turn more easily under heavy loads.
Load the weight closer to the wheel, lift with your legs rather than your back, and do not overload the tray. After work, wash off concrete, check the tyre pressure and grease the axle: how to maintain, store and organize hand tools.
At ToolsArmenia you can choose a wheelbarrow by wheels, volume, load capacity and tray material for the garden and building work.
