A detailed buying guide: how to choose cordless metal shears.
This section covers cordless metal shears and nibblers — sheet shears for straight and curved cuts, nibblers, double-cut shears and fibre-cement shears running on 12 V and 18–20 V batteries. They cut steel, stainless, aluminium and profiled sheet, roofing elements and ventilation ducts without sparks or heat distortion. Having no cable is especially convenient on roofs, in facade and ventilation installation and in car body and workshop work.
Sheet shears give a fast straight cut without chips, nibblers cut profiled sheet and complex contours, and double-cut shears do not distort the sheet edges. See electric shears or nibbler: how to choose by metal thickness, cutting radius, and cut type.
Most cordless models cut 1.2–2.5 mm steel, 0.8–1.5 mm stainless and 2–3.5 mm aluminium. Choose with a margin, since speed drops at maximum thickness. See how to choose electric metal shears.
The minimum radius shows how tight a curve you can cut: usually 30–50 mm for shears and less for nibblers. A stroke rate of 1500–4500 spm and speed control help manage the cut in thin sheet.
12 V models are light and suit sheet up to about 1.2 mm, while 18–20 V models cut thicker steel and profiled sheet. A 2–5 Ah battery is usually enough. Read cordless tool voltage (V) and battery capacity (Ah).
Shears are often sold as bare tools, so check compatibility with your battery platform or choose a kit with a battery and charger. See what is a unified battery platform and how to choose a battery and charger.
Brushless models are more compact, run longer per charge and hold speed better in thick sheet, while brushed models suit occasional use. Read brushed and brushless motor.
Weight with the battery is usually 1.5–3 kg. A rotating head, LED light and slim body make overhead and tight-space work easier. See tool ergonomics, weight, and safety systems.
Check the availability of replacement blades, punch and die and how easy they are to change, since dull blades tear the edge. For short cuts, hand snips may be enough. See how to choose hand saws, knives, snips, files and scrapers.
Sheet edges are very sharp, so wear cut-resistant gloves and glasses and remove the battery before changing blades. Read how to use cordless tools safely and how to choose work gloves.
At ToolsArmenia you can compare cordless metal shears and nibblers by type, cutting thickness, radius, voltage and weight and choose the right model for your jobs.
