Cordless Compressors and Inflators: for Tyres and Inflatables

Cordless Compressors and Inflators: for Tyres and Inflatables

Cordless Compressors and Inflators

A detailed buying guide: how to choose a cordless inflator.

This section covers cordless compressors and inflators in the 12 V, 18–20 V and 36–40 V classes, as well as hybrid models that run from a battery or a 12 V car socket. They are used to inflate car, motorcycle and bicycle tyres, balls, inflatable boats, mattresses and other inflatables, while models with a small tank also handle light air-tool jobs. Needing no cable or socket is convenient on the road, in the garage, in the workshop and in the field. For the general principles of choosing mains-powered compressors, read how to choose an air compressor.

What to consider when choosing a cordless compressor or inflator

Type and purpose

High-pressure inflators are designed for tyres, high-volume low-pressure pumps for mattresses and boats, and tank compressors for nailers and blow guns. There are also combination models with both modes. See how to choose a cordless tool.

Maximum pressure

Cordless inflators usually reach 8–11 bar (120–160 PSI), which is enough for car and light truck tyres. For inflatables, air volume matters more than pressure. Read how to choose compressor working pressure and what is working pressure.

Air delivery

Tyre inflators deliver about 10–30 l/min, high-volume pumps 300–600 l/min at low pressure. The higher the delivery, the faster a tyre inflates, but also the faster the battery drains. See how to calculate compressor air delivery.

Gauge, auto shut-off and adapters

Models with a digital gauge and automatic shut-off at a preset pressure prevent over-inflation. Check the hose length and whether Schrader and Presta valve adapters, a ball needle and inflatable nozzles are included. Read how to choose an air hose and connectors.

Voltage and battery capacity

12 V models are compact and suit occasional top-ups, while 18–20 V models with a 2–4 Ah battery can inflate several tyres per charge. For high-volume and tank compressors, choose a 4–6 Ah battery. See cordless tool voltage (V) and battery capacity (Ah).

Platform and kit contents

An inflator is often bought as an add-on for a platform you already own, so a body-only version makes sense. Hybrid models are handy to keep in the car because they can also run from the 12 V socket. Read what is a unified battery platform and how to choose a battery and charger.

Noise and size

Cordless inflators are typically 75–90 dB, and tank models can be louder. A compact model is easy to keep in the car, and an LED light helps in the dark. See what is noise level in db.

Safety

Never exceed the maximum pressure marked on the tyre or item, and check pressure on a cold tyre. Let the tool cool down after long use in line with its duty cycle. Read how to use cordless tools safely and how to use an air compressor safely.

At ToolsArmenia you can compare cordless compressors and inflators by pressure, air delivery, voltage, auto shut-off and included adapters and choose the right model for your needs.
