Electric Lawn Mowers: Corded 230 V Models for Home Lawns

Electric Lawn Mowers: Corded 230 V Models for Home Lawns

Electric Lawn Mowers

A detailed buying guide: how to choose an electric lawn mower.

This section covers electric lawn mowers powered from the 230 V mains, rated at 1000–2000 W with a 32–46 cm cutting width, including models with a grass box and a mulching mode. They are designed for regular care of lawns at homes and country houses, yards, small parks and compact green areas. A corded mower runs with no time limit, needs no fuel or oil, and is lighter and quieter than a petrol mower; the main limit is the cable length. If there is no socket on the plot, also compare the cordless option: how to choose a cordless lawn mower.

What to consider when choosing an electric lawn mower

Type and purpose

The most common type is the push mower with a rotary blade, suitable for lawns up to 500–800 m². For tall grass and uneven ground choose a model with a sturdy deck and large wheels, and for a neat ornamental lawn choose one with a mulching mode. See differences between professional and household power tools.

Motor power

A rating of 1000–1300 W is enough for a small, regularly mowed lawn, while 1600–2000 W models handle dense, wet and tall grass better without a noticeable drop in speed. Compare power with cutting width. See how to choose tool power (W).

Motor type and protection

Budget models mostly use a brushed motor, while higher-class models may have induction or brushless motors that are quieter and last longer. Thermal protection switches the motor off when it is overloaded. Read brushed and brushless motor and what is motor thermal protection.

Cutting width and height

A width of 32–34 cm suits narrow passages and small plots, while 40–46 cm reduces the number of passes on a large lawn. Cutting height is usually adjustable within 20–75 mm in 3–7 positions, most conveniently on models with a central lever.

Grass box, mulching and blade

Grass box capacity is usually 30–55 L; a fill indicator helps you empty it in time and keep collection effective. A mulching plug and a special blade chop the grass and return it to the lawn as fertiliser, while a dull blade should be sharpened or replaced. See how to choose spare parts for garden and forestry equipment.

Deck, wheels and weight

A plastic deck is light and rust-free, while a steel deck is tougher against stones and twigs. Large rear wheels, a folding handle and a weight of 10–25 kg determine how easy the mower is to steer and store. Read tool ergonomics, weight, and safety systems.

Cable and extension cord

Lawn mowers come with a short lead, so you need an outdoor-rated extension cord 20–50 m long with a cross-section of at least 1.5 mm². A cable strain relief on the handle keeps the plug from pulling out. Read how to use an extension cord safely and extension cord cross-section, length and reel unwinding.

Electrical and operating safety

Plug the mower only into a socket protected by an RCD, do not mow wet grass and always keep the cable away from the blade. Choose a model with a safety key and a bail lever that stops the motor when released, and work in closed footwear and safety glasses. Read how to choose electrical protection and switching devices and how to choose personal protective equipment.

At ToolsArmenia you can compare electric lawn mowers by power, cutting width and height, grass box capacity, deck material and weight and choose the right model for your lawn.
