Cordless Diamond Core Drills: Holes in Concrete

Cordless Diamond Core Drills: Holes in Concrete

Cordless Diamond Core Drills

A detailed buying guide: how to choose a cordless diamond core drill.

This section covers cordless diamond core drills — handheld dry-drilling models and rig-mounted wet-drilling machines running on 18 V, 36–40 V and 54–60 V batteries. They drill accurate round holes in concrete, reinforced concrete, brick and stone for pipes, ventilation, cables and heating systems. Having no cable matters especially in wet drilling, since there is no mains lead near water, and the machine is easy to move from floor to floor. For the general principles of diamond drilling, read how to choose a diamond core drill.

What to consider when choosing a cordless diamond core drill

Type and purpose

Handheld models suit dry drilling in brick and light concrete, while rig-mounted models are for wet drilling in reinforced concrete and larger diameters. The rig is fixed with an anchor or a vacuum base. See wet vs dry diamond drilling and anchoring the stand.

Drilling diameter and speeds

Handheld cordless units usually drill up to 82–152 mm, rig-mounted models up to 160–250 mm. A 2- or 3-speed gearbox lets you choose high speed for small bits and low speed for large ones. See what is rotational speed (RPM).

Diamond core bits

Check the bit thread (1 1/4" UNC or M18), whether it is for dry or wet drilling and its length. Reinforced concrete needs bits with segments that cut rebar. Read how to choose a diamond core bit.

Battery voltage and capacity

18 V units suit small diameters, while 36–60 V systems are preferable for large holes in reinforced concrete. Large bits need an 8–12 Ah battery so the hole can be finished on one charge. Read cordless tool voltage (V) and battery capacity (Ah).

Platform, battery and charger

High-capacity batteries and a fast charger matter for continuous work, so check whether they are included and compatible with your platform. See what is a unified battery platform and how to choose a battery and charger.

Brushless motor and safety clutch

A brushless motor holds torque at low speed, and a mechanical or electronic clutch stops rotation when the bit jams and protects your hands from twisting. Read what is a brushless motor and what is a safety clutch.

Weight and ergonomics

Handheld models weigh 4–7 kg with a battery, rig-mounted units 10–20 kg. A side handle, level indicator and easy-to-mount rig all matter. See tool ergonomics, weight, and safety systems.

Safe operation

Check the wall for cables and pipes, fix the rig securely and, when wet drilling, keep water away from the battery. Read how to use cordless tools safely.

At ToolsArmenia you can compare cordless diamond core drills by drilling diameter, voltage, speeds, dry or wet operation and weight and choose the right model for your jobs.
