Electric Concrete Mixers: 220/380 V for Home and Site

Electric Concrete Mixers: 220/380 V for Home and Site

Electric concrete mixers

A detailed buying guide: how to choose a concrete mixer.

This section covers mains-powered electric concrete mixers for preparing concrete, mortar, plaster and other building mixes: compact household models for the home, garden and country house, as well as large-drum 220 V and 380 V mixers for construction sites. For an overview, read what electrical equipment is and how it is classified.

What to consider when choosing an electric concrete mixer

Type and application

The most common are gravity (drum) mixers, which suit concrete and mixes with coarse aggregate. If there is no mains power, choose an engine-driven model — see how to choose engine-powered concrete equipment: mixer, vibrator, screed and power trowel — while for plaster, adhesive and small batches a handheld construction mixer is more convenient: how to choose a construction mixer.

Drum volume and batch output

Drum volume (l) and finished batch volume differ: one batch is usually about 60–70 % of the drum volume. A drum of about 120–160 l is enough for small jobs, while foundations and large volumes are better served by 180 l or more. Learn more: concrete mixer drum volume, batch output and drive type.

Power and supply

Most household concrete mixers run on 220 V and are rated at roughly 500–1000 W, while large-drum models may require 380 V. On site, use an extension cord with a suitable cross-section. See volt (V) and how to use an extension cord safely.

Drive, ring gear and durability

The drum is turned by a ring gear or a gearbox: a cast-iron ring gear lasts longer, while a polyamide one is quieter and cheaper. Check the drum wall thickness, frame strength and wheel size; on motor thermal protection, read what is motor thermal protection.

Electrical safety and protection

A concrete mixer works amid water, dust and mud, so splash protection of the motor and switch and the correct insulation class matter. See what is an IP rating and what is insulation class.

Cleaning and maintenance

Right after work, rinse the drum with water and gravel so concrete does not set on the walls, lubricate the bearings regularly and check the ring gear and pinion for wear. Read how to clean a power tool; on replacement parts: which spare parts and service kits are replaced during preventive maintenance.

Safe operation

Place the mixer on a level, stable surface, never put your hands or a shovel into the rotating drum, wear gloves and safety glasses, and power it from a circuit protected by a residual current device. Read how to use a concrete mixer or plate compactor safely and essential power tool safety rules.

At ToolsArmenia you can compare electric concrete mixers by drum volume, power, power supply and drive type and choose the right model for your home, garden or construction site.
