Cordless Vacuum Cleaners: Handheld, Workshop and Robot Models

Cordless Vacuum Cleaners: Handheld, Workshop and Robot Models

Cordless Vacuum Cleaners

A detailed buying guide: how to choose a cordless vacuum cleaner.

This section covers 12–22 V class cordless vacuum cleaners: handheld and stick models, workshop and site wet/dry vacuums, and robot vacuums. They are used for quick clean-ups at home, in the car interior, in the workshop and at the workplace — picking up wood and plaster dust, shavings, small debris and liquids. With no cable, the vacuum is easy to carry up stairs, onto a roof or anywhere without a socket, and batteries from the same platform can be shared with other tools.

What to consider when choosing a cordless vacuum cleaner

Type and purpose

Handheld vacuums suit the car and the workbench, stick models suit everyday floor cleaning, and wet/dry models handle the workshop, building debris and liquids. Robot vacuums clean home floors on their own according to a schedule. See how to choose a vacuum cleaner: household, workshop, industrial and washing.

Suction power and airflow

Suction (kPa or Pa) shows how heavy the debris the vacuum can lift, while airflow (l/s or m³/h) shows how quickly it collects light dust. Handheld models typically offer 5–15 kPa, workshop models 6–12 kPa with higher airflow, and robots 2000–6000 Pa. Read vacuum cleaner power, suction and airflow.

Container and filters

Handheld models usually have a 0.3–0.8 l dust container, while wet/dry vacuums hold 5–20 l or more. For fine dust choose a model with a washable or HEPA filter, and for liquids a version with float protection. See vacuum cleaner filters, dust containers and dust classes.

Voltage, capacity and runtime

12 V models are light and handy for quick clean-ups, while the 18–22 V class gives stronger suction and longer runtime. With a 2–4 Ah battery the vacuum runs about 15–40 minutes in normal mode and noticeably less at maximum power. See cordless tool voltage (V) and battery capacity (Ah).

Battery platform and charging

Workshop vacuums are often sold without a battery and charger for owners of tools on the same platform (TOTAL, DYLLU, EMTOP, Makita, DeWalt). Household handheld models and robots usually have a built-in battery and their own charging dock. Read what is a unified battery platform and how to choose a battery and charger.

Robot vacuum navigation and features

Laser (LiDAR) or camera navigation maps the home and cleans more systematically than random-movement models. Check for a self-charging dock, automatic emptying, a mopping function and app control.

Nozzles and accessories

Crevice, brush and floor nozzles, an extension tube and a flexible hose are useful, and in the workshop an adapter for connecting to a power tool. For heavy dust from power tools, see how to choose a construction vacuum cleaner.

Maintenance and safety

Clean the filter and empty the container regularly, as a clogged filter sharply reduces suction. Never pick up sparks, hot ash or flammable liquids, and store the battery in a dry, cool place. Read how to maintain a vacuum cleaner: filter cleaning and safe use and how to use cordless tools safely.

At ToolsArmenia you can compare cordless vacuum cleaners by type, suction power, container size, filter, voltage and battery platform and choose the right model for your home, car or workshop.
