Petrol Sprayers and Mist Blowers: Knapsack Models for Gardens and Farms

Petrol Sprayers and Mist Blowers: Knapsack Models for Gardens and Farms

Petrol Sprayers and Mist Blowers

A detailed buying guide: how to choose an engine-powered pressure washer, sprayer and mist blower.

This section covers petrol knapsack sprayers and mist blowers for spraying crop protection products, fertilisers and disinfectant solutions. They are used in gardens, vineyards and orchards, greenhouses and farms, and for disinfecting public areas. An engine-driven pump or fan provides even spraying and long throw distance without hand pumping. The category is intended for gardeners, farmers and municipal services.

What to consider when choosing a petrol sprayer

Type: pump sprayer or mist blower

A pump sprayer delivers the solution under pressure through a hose and lance, while a mist blower atomises it with an air stream and carries it into the tree canopy. The first suits shrubs and beds, the second tall trees and large areas. See what motor tools and engine-powered equipment are and how to choose them.

Engine displacement and power

Knapsack sprayer engines are usually 25–45 cm³ and mist blower engines 40–80 cm³, with 1–3 kW of power. A larger engine provides a stronger air stream and longer throw distance. Read differences between two-stroke, four-stroke and diesel engines and engine displacement, power, torque and RPM: how to compare engine-powered equipment.

Tank capacity and material

Solution tank capacity is usually 14–26 l: a larger tank needs fewer refills but makes the sprayer heavier. The tank should be made of chemical-resistant plastic and have a wide filler neck, a strainer and a level scale.

Throw distance, pump and nozzles

Mist blowers spray 10–15 m horizontally and 8–12 m vertically, while pump sprayers usually work at 10–25 bar. Check the flow regulator, interchangeable nozzles and whether powders or granules can also be spread.

Starting, fuel and mix

Most sprayers have a two-stroke engine with a manual recoil starter and run on a petrol and oil mix. Fuel tank capacity determines how long you can work without stopping. Read fuel, engine oil and two-stroke mix: how to choose and use them correctly.

Weight and harness

An empty sprayer weighs 8–12 kg and 25–35 kg with a full tank. Soft wide shoulder straps, a back pad and anti-vibration mounts reduce the strain during long work.

Personal protective equipment

Working with pesticides requires a respirator, sealed goggles and chemical-resistant gloves, and engine noise calls for hearing protection. Read how to choose a respirator, how to choose safety glasses, how to choose work gloves and how to choose hearing protection.

Safety, maintenance and spare parts

Do not spray in windy weather, and after work rinse the tank, pump and nozzles with clean water and let them dry. Check that spark plugs, filters, seals and nozzles are available. See how to safely use internal-combustion-engine tools and equipment, how to maintain and store motor tools and engine-powered equipment and how to choose spare parts for gasoline and diesel engines.

At ToolsArmenia you can compare petrol sprayers by type, tank capacity, throw distance, engine power and weight and choose the right model for your garden or farm.
