A detailed buying guide: how to choose a cordless work light or torch.
This section covers LED floodlights, work lights, torches and inspection lights powered by tool batteries of 12, 18, 20 and 40 V class platforms. They light up construction sites, garages, basements, attics and workshops, and are handy for emergency repairs, camping and evening work in the garden. With no cable, you can place the light right where you work — no extension leads or hunting for a socket. For general guidance, read how to choose a floodlight or work light.
Floodlights and tripod-mounted lights cover a large area, hand torches and inspection lights suit tight spaces and car maintenance, and hanging or flexible-neck models keep your hands free. A compact torch is enough at home, while a site needs a floodlight with a pivoting head.
Torches usually need 150–600 lm, work lights 1,000–3,000 lm, and large floodlights deliver 5,000 lm or more. Neutral-to-cool light of 5,000–6,500 K shows detail well; a wide beam lights a room, a narrow one reaches a distant point. See lumens, colour temperature and beam angle: how to compare floodlights.
It makes sense to choose a light for the platform of your existing tools — 12 V, 18–20 V or 40 V class — so you can use the batteries you already own. Some models also run from mains or USB and can charge a phone. See cordless tool voltage (V) and what is a unified battery platform.
Runtime depends on the brightness mode and battery capacity: a 1,000 lm light on a 4.0 Ah battery typically runs 3–6 hours, longer in eco mode. Several brightness modes and a charge indicator help you plan a working shift. Read battery capacity (Ah) and how to choose a battery and charger.
For site and outdoor work, choose a light rated at least IP54, and IP65 or higher for rain or damp basements. A rubberised housing and protective frame keep the light safe if it falls. See what is an IP rating.
A hook, magnetic base, clamp, pivoting head and tripod thread let you aim the light exactly where you work. Also compare weight and size if the light will be carried or hung. See tool ergonomics, weight, and safety systems.
Do not point a bright floodlight at people's eyes, do not cover the housing while it is on so the LEDs do not overheat, and store batteries in a cool, dry place. Read how to use cordless tools safely.
At ToolsArmenia you can compare cordless work lights and torches by light output, battery platform, runtime, protection rating and mounting options and choose the right model for your jobs.
