Cordless Mitre Saws: for Angled Cuts in Timber, Laminate and Skirting

Cordless Mitre Saws: for Angled Cuts in Timber, Laminate and Skirting

Cordless Mitre Saws

A detailed buying guide: how to choose a cordless mitre saw.

This section covers cordless mitre saws: 18–20 V and 36–40 V (including 2×18 V) models in standard, compound and sliding designs. They are used for accurate angled cuts in timber, laminate, skirting boards, architraves, battens and profiles in flooring, roofing, furniture and interior finishing work. With no cable, the saw can be set up right on site without an extension lead, which suits both tradespeople and home users. For the key parameters, read how to choose a mitre saw.

What to consider when choosing a cordless mitre saw

Type and purpose

A standard mitre saw cuts only horizontal mitres, a compound saw also cuts bevels, and a sliding model can cut boards 200–300 mm wide. A compact model is enough for home use, while a sliding saw suits daily work on site. See differences between professional and household power tools.

Blade diameter and cutting capacity

Cordless models commonly use 165–216 mm blades, and the 36–40 V class goes up to 254–305 mm. Choose tooth count for the task: 24–40 teeth for fast cuts, 60 or more for clean edges and laminate. Read how to choose a circular saw blade and how to choose saw-blade tooth count.

Angles, laser and accuracy

Check the mitre range (usually ±45–50°) and bevel range (0–45°, sometimes both ways), the presence of positive stops and how firmly they lock. A laser or LED shadow line helps set the cut line quickly.

Battery voltage and capacity

18–20 V saws suit skirting, laminate and thin boards, while 36–40 V or 2×18 V models handle thick timber and larger volumes. For the best runtime, choose 4–6 Ah batteries. See cordless tool voltage (V) and battery capacity (Ah).

Platform and kit contents

If you already own batteries for the same platform, a body-only version is noticeably cheaper. Check whether the kit includes a blade, clamp, dust bag, battery and charger. Read what is a unified battery platform and how to choose a battery and charger.

Brushless motor and brake

A brushless motor delivers more cuts per charge and holds speed more steadily in thick material. An electronic brake stops the blade in 2–3 seconds. See what is a brushless motor and what is an electronic brake.

Stability, dust and safety

Set the saw on a stable base or a dedicated stand, support long workpieces and clamp the material. A dust bag or vacuum connection keeps the work area clean. Read how to work safely with stationary machines and how to use cordless tools safely.

At ToolsArmenia you can compare cordless mitre saws by blade diameter, cutting width, angles, voltage and kit contents and choose the right model for your jobs.
