A detailed buying guide: how to choose a hydraulic body repair kit.
This section covers hydraulic body repair kits (porta power kits) rated at 4, 10 and 20 t, consisting of a hand pump, a ram connected by a flexible hose, extension tubes and interchangeable attachments. They are used in body repair to push out and pull in damaged areas and restore frame and door-opening geometry, and in workshops and on sites to spread or press parts apart. The kit works without any power supply and suits both body shops and general workshops. Read what hydraulic tools are and how they work.
A complete kit includes a separate hand pump, a flexible hose, a push ram and a wedge spreader, while basic versions may sell the pump and ram separately. The ram can work both in push mode and in pull mode with chains and clamps, letting you straighten the body in different directions. See how to choose a hydraulic cylinder or ram.
A 4 t kit is usually enough for light passenger cars, 10 t models are versatile for body and frame work, and 20 t kits are for trucks and heavy structures. Choose force with a 20–30 % margin, as the permissible load drops when working with extensions. Read how to choose hydraulic tool load capacity and working force.
Ram stroke is usually 100–150 mm, and the working length of the kit is increased with 100–500 mm extension tubes connected by thread or quick coupler. The wedge spreader starts from a 10–20 mm gap and opens to 80–100 mm. Check that the extensions are rated for the force of the ram.
The hand pump develops up to 700 bar, delivering large force from little hand effort, and a 1.2–2 m flexible hose lets you operate the pump at a distance from the ram. Quick couplers make it easy to swap rams and pumps but should be protected with dust caps. See how to choose a hydraulic pump and power source and how to choose hydraulic hoses, couplers, valves and pressure gauges.
A typical kit includes rubber and flat heads, V-shaped and angled bases, connectors, a wedge spreader and pulling clamps, packed in a plastic or metal case. The more attachments, the easier it is to position the ram in awkward places without damaging the body surface. Read how to choose hand tools for automotive and mechanical service.
The internal relief valve in the pump limits pressure and protects the ram from overload. Do not stand in line with the ram and extensions, as a slipping attachment can fly out, and wear safety glasses. See how to use hydraulic tools safely.
Use only hydraulic oil in the pump, bleed air from the system periodically and store the kit with the ram retracted. Oil leaks or pressure loss indicate worn seals, so check that repair kits and spare attachments are available. Read how to store and maintain hydraulic tools and how to choose spare parts for pneumatic and hydraulic tools.
At ToolsArmenia you can compare hydraulic body repair kits by force, ram stroke, extensions and attachments included, hose length and case and choose the right kit for your work.
