A detailed buying guide: how to choose a pneumatic grease gun.
This section covers pneumatic grease guns with continuous flow and shot-type models that pump grease into grease nipples under high pressure. They are used to lubricate bearings and joints on cars, trucks, tractors, combines, construction machinery and production equipment. A pneumatic grease gun works much faster than a manual lever gun without tiring the hand, and compared with a cordless model it is lighter and needs no charging. An electric or petrol compressor is required.
A continuous-flow gun pumps grease as long as the trigger is pressed and suits machinery with many grease points. A shot-type model delivers a set dose with each pull and allows precise control of the amount of grease. See what pneumatic tools are and how they work and how to choose a cordless grease gun.
A pneumatic grease gun multiplies inlet pressure at a ratio of 40:1–80:1 and delivers about 250–600 bar at an air pressure of 6–8 bar. High pressure helps clear clogged nipples and work with thick grease in winter. Read how to choose compressor working pressure.
Most guns use a standard 400 g cartridge that is quick and clean to change, and many models can also be bulk-filled from a container through a filler valve. Keep grease cartridges and containers closed and away from dirt. See how to choose spill control and hazardous-liquid safety storage.
A flexible hose (usually 30–50 cm) reaches awkward grease nipples, while a rigid extension suits straight access. Choose a tight-fitting four-jaw or quick-lock coupler that does not leak grease. The coupler is a wear part. See how to choose spare parts for pneumatic and hydraulic tools.
Grease guns have a 1/4" inlet thread fitted with a EURO, ORION or RAPID quick coupler to match your system. For farm machinery, a 10–15 m hose or a hose reel is convenient. See how to choose an air hose and quick couplers.
A grease gun uses air only while working, typically 80–170 l/min at 6.2–6.3 bar, so a compressor with a 24–50 l tank is enough. Do not exceed the maximum inlet pressure stated by the manufacturer. Read how to calculate compressor air delivery and how to choose an air compressor.
Condensate damages the piston and seals of the pump mechanism, so use a filter-regulator. If the gun requires oiling, add a few drops of air tool oil at the inlet or fit a lubricator. See how to prepare compressed air: condensate, filters, regulators, and lubricators.
A high-pressure grease jet can penetrate the skin, so never point the coupler at your body or clean it with a finger. Wear gloves and safety glasses, and release pressure before disconnecting the coupler. Read how to use pneumatic tools safely, how to choose work gloves and how to choose safety glasses.
Clean the gun and check the piston seals when changing grease type or before long storage. Choose a model for which repair kits are available. See how to choose seals, gaskets, O-rings and repair kits.
At ToolsArmenia you can compare pneumatic grease guns by delivery type, output pressure, cartridge size and hose and choose the right model for your machinery.
