Consumables for Tools

Consumables for Tools

Read more in the “Choosing Tool Accessories and Consumables” article.

Tool consumables are working components that gradually wear out during use and require periodic replacement. This category includes consumables for drilling, cutting, grinding, sawing, routing, and other construction and repair tasks, including drill bits, rotary hammer bits, core bits, cutting and grinding discs, router bits, saw blades, and other working components.

What to Consider When Choosing

  • Workpiece material — the consumable must be designed for the material being processed, such as metal, stainless steel, wood, concrete, reinforced concrete, brick, stone, ceramic, or glass. For detailed guidance, read how to choose a consumable for the workpiece material .
  • Compatible tool — make sure the consumable is suitable for the drill, rotary hammer, screwdriver, angle grinder, saw, router, or other equipment being used. A detailed compatibility check is provided in how to check consumable compatibility with a tool .
  • Mounting system — compare the shank, thread, or mounting system of the consumable with the tool’s holder or spindle. The main mounting systems are explained in differences between SDS Plus, SDS Max, and HEX systems .
  • Dimensions — the diameter, thickness, overall length, working length, bore size, and other dimensions must match the requirements of the tool and the intended task. Read how to choose the correct accessory size for more details.
  • Operating method — some consumables are intended for dry operation, while others require water cooling. Using the wrong method may accelerate wear and reduce working efficiency. The differences are explained in dry vs wet operation: how to choose the correct method .
  • Intended task — fast cutting, clean cutting, precise drilling, coarse grinding, and finishing require consumables with different designs and properties. Use the how to choose a consumable for the intended task guide to select the appropriate option.
  • Maximum rotational speed — the permitted speed of a disc, router bit, or other rotating consumable must not be lower than the operating speed of the tool. This specification is explained in what is rotational speed (RPM) .
  • Quantity per package — compare individual products and sets based on the amount of work, expected wear rate, and required replacement frequency.
