Crowbars and Nail Pullers for Pulling Nails and Demolition

Crowbars and Nail Pullers for Pulling Nails and Demolition

Crowbars and Nail Pullers

A detailed buying guide: how to choose a crowbar.

Crowbars and nail pullers are used to pull nails, strip boards, cladding and formwork, and lift and shift heavy objects. This section includes nail pullers, flat pry bars and heavy digging bars for soil and stone. General guide: how to choose hammers, mallets, axes, chisels and pry bars.

What to consider when choosing a crowbar

Type

A nail puller has a split claw at one end for nails, a flat pry bar is handy for prising up boards, and a heavy straight bar breaks up soil, ice and stone.

Length and leverage

The longer the bar, the less force is needed. Nail pullers of 300-600 mm suit indoor work, while 900-1500 mm bars are for demolition and heavy objects.

End shape

A thin flat end slips into narrow gaps, a curved end provides leverage, and a split claw grips the nail head. Universal models have two different ends.

Steel

Choose a bar made of hardened carbon or chrome vanadium steel that does not bend under load. A hexagonal section is stronger and does not turn in your hand. Read hand tool materials, hardness, coatings and ergonomics.

Safety

A bar can slip and strike you, so stand firmly and do not pull it towards yourself. General rules: how to use hand tools safely.

Gloves

Demolition involves nails, splinters and sharp edges, so wear sturdy gloves: how to choose work gloves.

At ToolsArmenia you can choose a crowbar or nail puller by type, length and steel for demolition and building work.
