Squares and Rulers for Accurate Marking Out

Squares and Rulers for Accurate Marking Out

Squares and Rulers

A detailed buying guide: how to choose a square and ruler.

Squares and rulers check right angles and measure short distances during marking out. This section is for carpentry and engineering squares, steel rulers, bevels, protractors and calipers. General guide: how to choose hand measuring, marking and layout tools.

What to consider when choosing a square and ruler

Square type

A carpenter’s square has a wide stock, an engineer’s square a precise 90°, and a sliding bevel sets any angle.

Length

Choose the length of the ruler or square (150-1000 mm) to suit the workpieces.

Accuracy

An engraved scale does not wear off, and a caliper measures to 0.1-0.02 mm.

Material

Stainless steel and aluminium do not bend or rust. Read hand tool materials, hardness, coatings and ergonomics.

Safety

Do not use a square as a lever or hammer. Read how to use hand tools safely.

Care

Store tools hanging or in a case so they do not bend. Read how to maintain, store and organize hand tools.

At ToolsArmenia you can choose squares and rulers by type, length and accuracy.
