Detailed guide: how to choose a utility knife.
This section covers replacement blades for utility knives: 9, 18 and 25 mm snap-off (segmented) blades, as well as trapezoid blades for folding and safety knives. Blades are sold in packs.
The blade must fit the knife: 9 mm for precise cutting, 18 mm for general work and 25 mm for thick materials. A blade of another width will not fit.
On a snap-off blade the dull segment is broken off to get a new sharp edge at once. Trapezoid blades are used in folding and safety knives and are stiffer.
Standard 18 mm blades are 0.5 mm thick, heavy-duty ones 0.6–0.7 mm: they bend less when cutting cardboard, linoleum and drywall.
SK5 and other carbon tool steels hold the edge for a long time. A black (oxidized) finish protects against rust.
A pack usually holds 10 blades. A plastic case or dispenser protects the blades and is handy for storing used segments safely.
Snap off segments with the knife cap or pliers, away from yourself, and keep used segments in a closed container. Read: how to maintain, store and organize hand tools.
At ToolsArmenia you can choose utility knife blades by width, type and thickness.
