Spanners and Adjustable Wrenches

Open-end, ring and adjustable spanners are the basic tool for turning nuts and bolts. What to consider when choosing a spanner

Type

The ring end grips the nut on 6 or 12 points and does not slip, the open end slides on quickly, a ratchet lets you turn in a small swing arc, and an adjustable wrench replaces several sizes.

Size and length

Choose the size in mm to match the nut. A longer wrench gives more torque, and for an adjustable wrench the maximum opening matters.

Ratchet

A fine-tooth ratchet works in tight spaces, and a flex head lets you reach at an angle.

Steel

Safety
