Cordless Rivet Guns: Fast Setting of 2.4–6.4 mm Rivets Without a Compressor

Cordless Rivet Guns: Fast Setting of 2.4–6.4 mm Rivets Without a Compressor

Cordless Rivet Guns

A detailed buying guide: how to choose a cordless rivet gun.

This section covers cordless rivet guns for blind rivets and threaded rivet nuts. They run on 12–20 V batteries and set 2.4–6.4 mm rivets quickly without hand force or a compressor. The tool suits sheet-metal work, ventilation installation, roofing, trailers and metal structures. For a fixed workshop, also compare pneumatic models: see how to choose a pneumatic rivet gun.

What to consider when choosing a cordless rivet gun

Rivet type

Most models are designed for blind rivets, while dedicated tools or interchangeable heads let you set M4–M10 threaded rivet nuts. If you work with both types, choose a combination model or a kit. The working principle is similar to pneumatic and hand rivet guns, except the motor provides the force.

Rivet diameter and material

Standard cordless rivet guns set 2.4–4.8 mm rivets, while more powerful models handle up to 6.4 mm, including steel and stainless rivets. Aluminium rivets need less force than steel and stainless ones. Check that the nosepieces in the kit match your rivet diameters.

Pulling force and stroke

Pulling force is usually 8–20 kN, and the higher it is, the thicker and stronger the rivets the tool can set. A long stroke (20–25 mm) lets you set long rivets in one cycle. Automatic return and a mandrel collection container speed up serial work.

Voltage, battery and platform

12 V models are light and suit smaller rivets, while 18–20 V models work faster and cope with larger rivets. A 2–4 Ah battery is enough for hundreds of rivets. Read cordless tool voltage (V), battery capacity (Ah) and what is a unified battery platform.

Motor and speed

A brushless motor delivers steadier force and sets more rivets per charge. Setting one rivet usually takes 1–2 seconds, which matters in serial assembly. See brushed and brushless motor.

Weight and ergonomics

With the battery fitted, the tool usually weighs 1.5–2.5 kg, and a balanced housing reduces arm fatigue when working overhead. An LED light, a charge indicator and a mandrel container that keeps mandrels off the work area are useful. See tool ergonomics, weight, and safety systems.

Safety

Wear safety glasses, because a broken-off mandrel can fly out if the container is not fitted. Do not point the nose at people, and remove the battery when changing the nosepiece. Read how to choose safety glasses and how to use cordless tools safely.

At ToolsArmenia you can compare cordless rivet guns by rivet type and diameter, pulling force, voltage and weight and choose the right model for your work.
